Category: Let's talk
Hi everyone
I am doing some research that will lead to a presentation at a major conference on assistive technology.
The idea of the research is to what extent uscreen reader users take advantaage of the so-called "structural semantic elements" i.e. headings, landmarks and such.
The survey is anonymous, 9 questions, should take no more than 3 to 5 minutes, and I would appreciate it enormously if as many of you as possible could take it, it would be so cool.
Please don't be shy if you don't know the answer, part of the premise of my research is that perhaps we forget to teach users about all of these neat little things that are available in some web pages, so feel absolutely free and not embarrassed to indicate that you simply don't know the answer.

just took the survey. Rather ashamed of all the things I find I don't know, particularly involving landmarks.
good luck with it.
may have a look
Just did it myself. Fortunately it was short. Unlike my daughter and her friends, I am not much of one for surveys and quizes, so yours being straightforward made it a simple enough matter.
Okidoki. Done.
I hate surveys, but I did this one for you B. Good luck with your project.
Nice survey. It was well written, and worded clearly. Good luck on your research and presentation.
Best of luck with your project, and thank you for presenting a short but clear servay.
Just took it; thanks, and good luck with the research and everything. *smile*
Thanks guy for taking my survey.
Again, I am still learning about landmarks, and they are implemented in some screen reader and browser combinations, not others.
I know about landmarks and heading structure, and I read things like the WEb Content Accessibility Guidelines for work (do not go read it for fun).
But I am still learning a heck of a lot of new things, so do not even dream of feeling bad that there are things you don't know.
Again, thanks guys, if you can encourage yet more people to take the survey, it would be so cool, but no pressure, no sweat. Just glad you took the time to do it.
took the survey.
just took the survey. good luck! let us know how it goes.
WB, have you considered sending this out to the mailing lists of both consumer organizations? That way you'd have a much wider audience to take the survey. I know it's worked in the past for people who have done projects. I do not know who moderates the ACB lists, but I could give you the info of the guy that moderates the NFB lists. Even if you're a member of neither one, this just widens your target audience.
One question: Why did you not include the iPhone or Android? These are very expedient ways to surf the web, and I know at least on my iPhone, I use all those tools like landmarks and headings and the like when browsing. Even last night at Coast Guard meeeting I ended up needing to look something up not in our manuals, but off the web, using my iPhone. And I used a lot of those controls from the web to get there quickly.
Phones / tablets are quickly outpacing new sales of computers for consumers.
I also took the survey.
let us know how it goes.
I'll be sure to pass it along as well.
